About

Center for In Hand Leadership (CIHL) provides leadership and personal development support for individuals, organizations. While we can work with any population, we have a special focus on church organizations and church leadership.

Center for In Hand Leadership is a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation providing experiences to inspire personal and spiritual growth, community integration and enhanced awareness of the natural environment through mutual trust, respect, education, and leadership.

Center for In-Hand Leadership is also a 501(c)3 horse rescue. The horses in our rescue have come from a variety of situations. Some were abused, some were abandoned. Some were simply unwanted and difficult to rehome due to lack of training or physical defect. Some horses can be adopted, others will stay indefinitely. All of our horses participate in our Equine Assisted Learning programs to assist humans in gaining better understanding of themselves and others.

As an independent rescue organization, Center for In-Hand Leadership relies on funding from private donations, fundraisers and educational programs. We depend on the support and generosity of people like you to continue our mission. The horse rescue can always use donations of hay, tack or cash to help feed our crew of “facilitators”. Even a small donation of $10 a month can help a horse in need.

Frequently Asked Questions

Coaching is a dynamic process where individuals (or groups) are assisted in determining goals, gaining decision making skills, improving communication and self awareness. Each person decides what to work on and the coach facilitates the learning/growing process. Coaching can address personal development, life or career decisions, leadership, communication or simply building confidence.

Coaching develops emotionally intelligent  competencies so that clients can effectively lead and grow. It is an ongoing, thinking-partner process that encourages growth in the individual. Coaching does not address personality issues or fix the organization. More than a mentor, a coach provides support, objectivity, and accountability while maintaining confidentiality with the client.

Consultation provides immediate, expert assistance to the leader dealing with stressful situations. Leadership workshops are offered periodically. Topics commonly addressed include: dealing with difficult people, leading effective and efficient meetings, when to refer members to an outside resource, dealing effectively with superiors, time management and  administration issues.

In the same way coaching is used for leadership in business organizations, it can be used for churches and church leadership. Just as in businesses, many individuals are put into positions of leadership with little or no experience or training as a leader. And while leadership can be learned, very few people are natural leaders. This is where coaching helps the new or struggling leader to identify issues, find productive solutions and grow into their potential.

No. CIHL programs do not include any riding. All interactions with the horses are from ground level. All you will need is a pair of boots, a hat and the desire to learn.
