Center for In Hand Leadership

Leadership Development

Leadership is about connections. Great leaders inspire and empower others. Inspiration and empowerment develop through connections- connections with people, with a higher power and with one’s self. Self-awareness, or emotional intelligence, is critical to successful interactions with other people. Emotional intelligence enables deeper understanding of self and others, resulting in more effective connections. Spiritual awareness, or the belief in a higher power, is essential to knowing yourself, knowing and successfully interacting with others, and developing the vision and confidence to be a great leader.

Whether you wish to improve your leadership skills, gain focus for your career, or improve your understanding of yourself and others, Center for In-Hand Leadership (CIHL) has programs and resources to assist in your growth. Our mission is based, in part, on Isaiah 41:10:

“Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.”

and Isaiah 42:6:

“I am the Lord, I have called you in righteousness, I will also hold you by the hand and watch over you, and I will appoint you as a covenant to the people, as a light to the nations.”(42:6)

COACHING

Coaching is a dynamic process where individuals (or groups) are assisted in determining goals, gaining decision making skills, improving communication and self awareness. Each person decides what to work on and the coach facilitates the learning/growing process. Coaching can address personal development, life or career decisions, leadership, communication or simply building confidence. Center for In-Hand Leadership offers coaching for all these issues and many others.

Leadership Development

Organization leadership is often made up of people who are willing to serve, but have no idea of how to lead effectively. Many individuals have been put into leadership positions because they were good at their jobs. Unfortunately, they have never been taught how to lead or be administrators. They may be lacking administrative, interpersonal or leadership skills. How can they obtain the skills to hold effective meetings, deal with difficult people, and resolve group conflicts? That is where CIHL comes in. We help leaders gain effective leadership and administrative skills. Through coaching, seminars, workshops and consulting sessions, leaders can increase their effectiveness quickly and in practical ways.

Coaching

Coaching develops emotionally intelligent competencies so that individuals can interact more effectively It is an ongoing, thinking-partner process that encourages growth in the leader and in the organization. Coaching is different from counseling or consulting. Coaching does not address personality issues or fix the organization. More than a mentor, a coach provides support, objectivity, and accountability while maintaining confidentiality with the client.

Consulting

Consultation provides immediate, expert assistance to the organization leader dealing with stressful situations. Leadership workshops are offered periodically. Topics commonly addressed include: dealing with difficult people, leading effective and efficient meetings, dealing effectively with superiors, time management and administration issues.

Equine Assisted Learning

Equine Assisted Learning involves experiential learning from activities done with a horse or horses. What you do, how you do it and your reactions during the experience metaphorically reflect what is going on in other parts of your life. Equine Assisted Personal Development (EAPD) consists of equine assisted learning activities which allow you to understand yourself more fully, become more flexible and adaptable, and have a barrel of fun while interacting with horses.

How does it work?

You play games with the horses. you don’t necessarily ride them. The horses provide immediate feedback about yourself by mirroring your emotions and your behavior. You learn to react differently. The changes you make are lasting.

Why use horses?

Horses are big. Horses are curious. Horses can be intimidating. Horses are playful. Horses respond immediately. Horses challenge us to be authentic. Horses don’t lie and can tell when we do. Horses know if you mean what you say. Horses challenge us to be our best.
