Equine Assisted Learning
Equine Assisted Learning involves experiential learning from activities done with a horse or horses. What you do, how you do it and your reactions during the experience metaphorically reflect what is going on in other parts of your life. Equine Assisted Personal Development (EAPD) consists of equine assisted learning activities which allow you to understand yourself more fully, become more flexible and adaptable, and have a barrel of fun while interacting with horses.
How does it work?
You play games with the horses. you don't necessarily ride them. The horses provide immediate feedback about yourself by mirroring your emotions and your behavior. You learn to react differently. The changes you make are lasting.
Why use horses?
Horses are big. Horses are curious. Horses can be intimidating. Horses are playful. Horses respond immediately. Horses challenge us to be authentic. Horses don't lie and can tell when we do. Horses know if you mean what you say. Horses challenge us to be our best.
What is it useful for? Anything!
- Personal issues
- Focus problems and Attention Deficit Disorder
- Social anxiety or shyness
- Anger and acting out
- Interpersonal relationships
- Grief and loss
EAPD for Leadership
Equine-guided leadership training is a powerful leadership training method that applies the principles of non-violent horse training to help leaders understand how to work with people by building trust. Based on operant conditioning, the principles used with training horses have already been successfully transferred to the corporate world.
Skills used in the business world are consistently used in the world of horses. Both horses and humans require empathy, communication, strategic planning, problem solving, collaboration, clearly defined goals, responsibility, learning, trust and leadership. Both horses and humans will follow strong leaders. Horses excel in team dynamics, yet they all unique, like humans. Each one has its own temperament. Using horses to assist in training leadership skills provides the opportunity for humans to test out leadership styles and skills and receive instant feedback. The horse is the catalyst that creates the ability for people to change.
Both people and horses naturally want someone to lead them. When you behave as the leader, demonstrate to the horse that you are more aware and better able to keep the horse safe, the horse will trust you and willingly perform for you.
EAPD assists in:
- Leadership development
- Team building
- Problem solving
- Organization change
- Decision making
- Change management

Equine Assisted Personal Development (EAPD)
EAPD is a cutting edge self-development opportunity for people (from all walks of life) to gain unique and powerful insights. EAPD offers an experiential, supportive learning environment for you to learn about yourself and reconnect to what has heart and meaning in your life. This work involves the horse directly as a teacher. A horse's respect, trust, focus and willingness is only earned when a human learns to balance their predator-based behaviors with the horse's prey-based behaviors. What a horse needs to see in the one it willingly elects as its leader, be it horse or human, is the same character traits we want to see in ourselves. Learning to be the better horse translated literally, not just metaphorically, into becoming a better person. All the horse activities take place with people on the ground and no horse experience is necessary. Workshops are available in 2-day, 1-day, and other customized versions.
